Online Ticket Portal Issue gets Diluted At Last in AP?

As a first of its kind in the country, a state government had decided to dictate norms for the industry on the ticket prices and bring an online ticketing system for fairness and transparency. This happened in Andhra Pradesh, the land that has movie lovers across the state.

The Andhra Pradesh Ministers had earlier alleged that the taxes are not being paid and the movie ticket prices are so high that the common people are unable to buy the tickets for such prices. To put an end to this, an online ticket portal would be brought very soon, the government said.

The theatre owners had raised few objections to this and even knocked on the doors of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. However, they could not get relief and the court said that the petition cannot be entertained.

The online portal has been in the news for quite some time. When there were reports in the media that the Andhra Pradesh government might give a revised Government Order on the ticket issue, everyone hoped that the GO would give clarity on the ticket portal.

However, the GO surprised everyone as it did not speak about the ticket portal and all it mentioned was about the hike in the ticket prices and granting permission for the extra shows.

One wonders why the government that made so much noise on the alleged irregularities in the tax payment did not find any time to put in efforts to bring the online portal to sell tickets.

The whole episode shows that the online tickets portal issue that created quite a sensation was diluted. A few experts also feel that the government used this as a weapon to bring the film industry to it.

Looking at the new relaxations, the government said that the ticket prices can be increased to Rs 150 and Rs 125 for multiplexes and single screens respectively.

The high ticket films can get the facility to hike the ticket prices under the condition that a portion of the shoot should be done in Andhra Pradesh. However, Radhe Shyam and RRR were allowed for the relaxations despite not following the same.
