A lot of producers line up to buy the remake rights of hit Malayalam films. But the trend is changing nowadays as the original content is getting released on OTT platform within a month or two after its theatrical release.
People from various regions are watching the films with the help of subtitles. The OTT platforms are even dubbing the films in other languages too which is making it easy for everyone to understand the film. Going into the details, crazy talented hero Tovino Thomas scored a huge hit recently with 'Thallumala'. It grossed over 100 crores and earned a spot in the Top 10 highest earning movies in Kerala. The movie has a simple story but the manner in which it is narrated and the editing style thrilled everyone. The action lovers and the youth fell in love with this film.
A top production house in Telugu bought the remake rights for 85 lakhs and they planned to cast Siddhu Jonnalagadda or Vishwak Sen as the lead actors. While the plan sounded good, the original version started streaming on Netflix and it is getting huge viewership. What is even more damaging is the fact that the Telugu dubbed version is also made available. Due to this, the Telugu audience are watching this film happily and enjoying the original version. The same happened with Simbu's 'Maanadu' too. The Telugu version is available on Sony Liv and there are discussions going on about the film getting remade in Telugu. It looks like the producers who buy the remake rights should be careful while signing the dotted line regarding the OTT releases.
