With the Coronavirus, the importance of OTT platforms have increased by leaps and bounds. They became the biggest source of entertainment for the people and with the theatres closed, they became the only source of income for producers.
Many filmmakers are now approaching the OTT platforms in order to sell their films. But talk in the tinsel town is that the online streaming sites are not showing much interest in buying regular films. Sources say that they are giving first priority to multilingual films which were simultaneously made in two or more languages and can be dubbed into the remaining languages. As these multilinguals attract the audience from many regions and languages, it automatically increases the viewership and subscription of OTT platforms.
The OTT representatives are also showing interest in films that have big artists who are well-known in many regions. They are showing importance to these films and quoting fewer prices to straight regular films as per sources. We need to wait and see how the film industry handles this tough situation.
