Pakistan continues ceasefire violation on LoC
By: Tupaki Desk | 27 Aug 2013 5:46 AM GMTPakistani troops violated the ceasefire on the Line of Control throughout Monday, firing on Indian positions in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch and Rajouri districts, officials said. Indian troops retaliated and the exchange of fire was still late Monday night.
Pakistani troops opened fire with small arms and automatic weapons at posts in Mendhar area of Rajouri around 2 p.m. and again in Poonch from 5.30 p.m., army spokesman, Col. R.K. Palta, told IANS.
Indian soldiers retaliated with similar calibre weapons and intermittent firing was still on at 10.30 p.m., he said.
There were no casualties or damage on the Indian side, Col Palta added.
Earlier Monday, Pakistan troops opened unprovoked fired at Indian positions in Poonch district, a police officer told IANS.
"Unprovoked firing was started at Indian positions by Pakistan troops at 6 a.m. today (Monday) morning at two places on the LoC in Poonch district.
"Light weapons fire was returned by Indian troops. While firing has stopped at one place, firing exchanges are still continuing at the other place," the official said.
Pakistan has been violating the bilateral ceasefire on the LoC since last two months quite frequently.
There are reports of some families living along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri districts planning to migrate to safer places. However, there has been no official confirmation of this so far.
