Panabaka Lakshmi's political career hits roadblock
By: Tupaki Desk | 21 July 2021 1:05 PM GMTIs Panabaka Lakshmi in the Telugu Desam Party? Panabaka Lakshmi has become completely inactive ever since the Tirupati bye elections. She has not met any party worker or leader. She did not even bother to talk to Chandrababu Naidu. She has not attended any online meeting of the party. Even the party leaders do not know whether she is in the TDP or not.
Panabaka was once a very powerful Dalit leader and was the Dalit face of the coastal Andhra Congress politics. She was given the Nellore MP ticket and has won thrice. She was even a union minister in the 2009-2014 term. Panabaka understood the Congress politics very well and did not have any problem with the party.
However, the TDP dynamics are different. Though she had joined the TDP and she found the going tough. The TDP group politics were different from the Congress Party. After the 2019 election defeat, she had become completely inactive. It took a lot of effort on the part of Chandrababu Naidu to persuade her to contest the Tirupati bypolls. Even during the byelections, her efforts were half-hearted. Soon after the defeat, she withdrew into a shell.
Sources say that she had tried to join the BJP and is said to be in touch with the BJP leaders at the national level. But, the future of the BJP too appears quite bleak in Andhra Pradesh. As a result, her political career appears to have hit a roadblock. Hence she seems to have gone into the silent mode of late.
