Producers Should Be Cautious With OTT Platforms!

Currently, most of the filmmakers are showing interest in releasing their films on OTT platforms. But things are going to get tough once the makers start depending on these digital platforms as per experts. The steaming networks are giving fancy rates for now in order to attract the filmmakers, audience and reduce the theatre business. But experts say that it may not continue very long.

They say that once the producers start believing in OTT platforms, they will have a stronger grip and will no longer give those fancy rates. They are reportedly going to come up with new rules which will make things critical for our producers. They will be in a position to decide the release dates and hold our movies when other language movies get released. Analysts say that OTT platforms may start the trend of revenue sharing which may not be profitable for our producers. Currently, they are giving 14 rupees per view which may decrease in the coming days.

Also, our producers are ignoring a crucial aspect. For example, Akshay Kumar's 'Laxmi Bomb' was reportedly sold for 125 crores to an OTT platform. If this film gets a theatrical release, there may be a chance of this film making 300 crores or in another scenario, it may get only minor profits. The producers have the capability of guessing which film works and which film doesn't. So, if the producers start being careful, they may escape the masterplan of OTT platforms. Films like 'Penguin' may not get good revenues if they get released in theatres but using Keerthy Suresh's reputation, the makers sold it for good rates and they are not concerned whether it is a hit or not. So, our producers need to be careful and clever from now on as per the trade experts.
