Kannada feature film 'Thithi' which marked the directorial debut of Raam Reddy bagged two awards at Locarno International Film Festival.

'Thithi' competed in the section of 'Filmmakers of the Present' at the 69th Locarno Film Festival. Finally, The regional film bagged the top prize in this category. It also won the Swatch Award, usually give to the Best First Feature.

The film deals with the subject 'cremation rites of a family patriarch'. It's about three-generations of a family in rural-Karnataka gathering for the cremation of family male head. Most of the actors in the film are newcomers.

Raam Reddy: "Thithi is my dream project. Tried to show India's greatness and how simply one can lead the life with this movie'.

Korean filmmaker Hong Sang-soo won Locarno Film Festival's top honour 'Golden Leopard' for his movie 'Right Now, Wrong Then
