Superstar Rajinikanth had faced criticism on social media for going to the court for property tax relief during the pandemic.

The Madras High Court warned Rajini for moving the court against the Greater Chennai Corporation's tax demand of Rs 6.50 lakhs as property tax for his Sri Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam, located in Kodambakam, Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

The veteran actor in his plea said that the marriage hall has remained vacant since the beginning of the lockdown and said no revenue had been earned in the bargain.

The court warned Rajini that costs will be imposed for hastening to the court against the tax demand. His lawyer has asked for time to revoke their case.

"Raghavendra Mandapam property tax...we should have appealed to the corporation. The mistake could have been avoided. #Experience is a lesson," tweeted Rajini.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth, today paid the entire amount of ₹ 6.56 lakh levied as property tax for his Raghavendra Mandapam.
