It's common for actors to meet real officers like retired Inspectors, politicians, employees for a role as part of their preparation. Many actors follow this as a process during their 'method' and there are numerous examples like Shah Rukh Khan meeting people suffering with autism before performing as Rizwan in My Name is Khan. Amitabh Bachchan met several elderly with Aspergers Syndrome for his role in Black. Akkineni Nagarjuna met and observed several quadriplegic patients for his role in Oopiri.

Rana Daggubati, who attained National fame as Bhallaladeva in Baahubali, signed on his next film after Nene Raju Nene Mantri, Aasphota - The Human Bomb in the direction of AM Rajesh. The movie is based on former Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi's assassination and the investigation of the famous bombing incident that led to catching Nalini and gang who entered our country with the support of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. Vellupillai Prabhakaran, the founder of Eelam is found to be one of the major conspirators.

To find out how the gang entered and what political situations helped them in the assassination, many books have been written and films like Madras Cafe were made but full length feature film highlighting the investigation and situations after, were less attempted. Aasphota, tries to explore that and Rana Daggubati is playing the chief investigate officer from CBI that lead the team. Ran met Karthikeyan, the retired officer as part of his preparation and the officer was impressed by the actor. He told him everything he needed to know and also gifted him his book, Rajeev Gandhi Assassination: The investigation, written by him for further help. Along with Rana Daggubati, Venkatesh and director AM Rajesh also met with Karthikeyan to know several details.
