Cast: Charmi, Brahmanandam, Satya,
Music: Sunil kashyap
Story: Malladi venkata krishna Murthy
Screenplay, Dialogues, Direction: Puri Jagannath
Producer: Swetha Lana, Varun, teja, CV Rao
Release date: 12th June, 2015
The combination of a Star Director and fade-out Heroine who is known for her 'sex bomb' image attempting a women-centric flick laced with a social message has generated enough craze for 'Jyothi Lakshmi'. This film is based on the novel 'Mrs. Paramkusam' by Malladi Venkata Krishna Murthy 40 years ago. Puri did make enough changes to reach out to present day cine goers. Did the gamble pay off? What worked & what didn't? Here are the answers you are looking for...
Synopsis:
A software professional, Satya (Satya Dev), gets smitten by Jyothi Lakshmi (Charmee Kaur) upon spotting her in a market and decides she is his soulmate with whom he wants to spend rest of his life. Initially, Jyothi Lakshmi makes fun of the love proposal but gradually she realises the honesty in it. She takes the call to marry Satya and begin a new life but her past continues to haunt her constantly. Did Jyothi Lakshmi succumb to the pressure or fought back against all the odds?
Performances:
Charmee Kaur goes overboard in a lot of sequences. Her expressions in the scene where he goes to the Hero's House irritate the audience. Puri tried his best to show Charmee as glamorous as possible but the charm which was present in her initial years was missing here. The only saver is her power-packed performance in the last half-hour.
Satya Dev walks away with brownie points for his ease of acting, impressive timing and commendable screen presence. Brahmanandam is alright. The Guy who played Hero's Friend leaves a mark of his own. Main Villain and Ram Reddy fail to impress.
Pros:
Satya Dev
Pre-Climax & Climax
Cons:
First Half
No Emotional Connect
Unconvincing Screenplay
Technicalities:
There is nothing special about Sunil Kashyap's Music. Title Song & Beach Number are the best in the album. Background Score is strictly okay. PG Vinda's Camera Work lacks the spark to elevate the scenes. Dialogues weren't up to Puri's Standards. The only one-liner to deserve a special mention - 'Devullaku Kuda Ammayilante Chinna Choopu... Anduke Ammayilanu Kanaledu'. Makers compromised on Production Values and it is quite evident while watching the movie.
Analysis:
Films like 'Jyothi Lakshmi' work only when audience connect with the emotions and develop some sort of sympathy for the lead character. In case of this movie, Viewers never connect with the 80s-kind of flashback and too much dramatisation is a put off. Characterization of the Heroine is terrible to say the least. Unwanted/Unnecessary Adult Dialogues and Unconvincing Scenes are what you find in 'Jyothi Lakshmi'.
First Half of the movie is mediocre. Even Second Hand starts on a poor note but Puri succeeded in narrating the transformation of Charmee in the pre-climax episode in an entertaining way. Mass Audience will thoroughly enjoy these scenes.
The result could have been different if Puri seriously tried to make sure audience connect with the lead characters emotionally. Instead, He banked solely on the last half-an-hour and wrapped up the shoot in just 37 working days. Elements which will be liked by the masses alone could save 'Jyothi Lakshmi' from biting the dust.
Bottomline: Half-Hearted Attempt!
