Crime-basedrn subjects are the forte of Ram Gopal Varma. He, however, wasn't able to rndeliver impactful films after 'Raktha Charithra'. Trailers gave a rnfeeling that 'Vangaveeti' would a befitting reply the critics who had rnwritten him off. Did this biopic live up to the hype?
Synopsis:
Vangaveetirn Radha (Sandeep Kumar) establishes himself as a rowdy in Vijayawada withrn the support of Communist Leader Venkataratnam. After a point, rnVenkataratnam feels jealous of Radha's popularity and insults him. rnThat's when Radha kills Venkataratnam and takes the city under his rncontrol. Thereafter, Devineni Brothers Gandhi (Koutilya) and Nehru rn(Sritej) joins Radha's Camp. After supporters of Venkataratnam hack rnRadha to death, His Younger Brother Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga takes his rnplace. The rise of Ranga as a leader and his assassination plot forms rnrest of the tale!
Performances:
Sandeeprn Kumar breathes life into the characters of Vangaveeti Radha and rnVangaveeti Ranga. Intensity, expressions during the close-up shots, rnconfidence and ease shown by him is praise worthy. Even his body rnlanguage and voice suited the characters to the T. Credit to RGV for rncasting Sandeep Kumar and transforming him into Radha/Ranga.
Vamsirn Chaganti as Devineni Murali and Sritej as Devineni Nehru are flawless. rnNaina Ganguly as Ratnakumari is quite good. Koutiya does complete rnjustice to the role.

Technicalities:
Musicrn by Ravi Shankar is alright. 'Maranam' song is the best tune in the rnalbum. Background Score is as per the requirement. Although three rnCinematographers worked for 'Vangaveeti', No one realizes any differencern in the presentation of scenes as the trio worked as per RGV's School. rnVarma-mark Camera Angels and Aerial Shots will stand out. Dialogues werern crisp & philosophical at times. RGV left a mark of his own on each rnand every scene in the movie. Taking-wise, Varma scores brownie points.rn He, however, didn't go in-depth and that's why the impact isn't strong rnenough.
Analysis:
Ram Gopal rnVarma has got a style of his own while dealing with crime-based rnsubjects. He shows his expertise at picturizing murder scenes in a rnthrilling manner yet again with 'Vangaveeti'. Sadly, RGV focussed more rnon the assassination plots rather than narrating the back stories in a rngripping manner.
'Vangaveeti' opens in an interesting manner withrn Venkataratnam episode and ends with Varma-mark murder scene. rnThereafter, Audience get to see one murder after the other to make it rntad boring. RGV didn't focus either on political influence or personal rnmatters of Vangaveeti & Devineni Families. He hasn't even took a rnstand on whom among the two groups were right or wrong, but remained rnneutral. He tried not to touch controversial elements but managed to rnconvey who conspired to kill Vangaveeti Ranga indirectly. Lack of rngripping narration in these crucial scenes is a huge drawback.
Whyrn does a Heroine need an Introduction Number & Marriage Song in a rnfilm like 'Vangaveeti'? Only RGV alone can answer this question! rn'Maranam' Song which was used to establish the group wars is good enoughrn but rest of the songs are like speed-breakers. Varma didn't present thern rise of Ranga as a leader very affectively. As a result, Radha's rnCharacter gets elevated more than that of Ranga despite shorter screen rntime. There isn't even a single character as powerful as that of Bukka rnReddy in 'Raktha Charithra'. So, That's going to be another minus point.
RGV-markrn Taking, Camera Angels and Picturization of Scenes is quite impressive. rnHe did succeed to present how Vijayawada used to be in the 80s to some rnextent. The way Varma ended the movie after the murder of Ranga by rnturning the camera towards Goddess Durga deserves a special mention. rnOverall, 'Vangaveeti' isn't one of the best films of RGV but definitely rnone of the better film from him.
