Movie Review : 'Samajavaragamana'

After doing some quality experiments, talented hero Sree Vishnu is back to the comedy genre. His new movie 'Samajavaragamana' is a complete family entertainer as the trailer suggests. The promotional content was impressive and the makers even went for early premieres in order to generate more buzz on the movie. Let us dive into the review to find out more about this flick.
Story:
Bala Subramanyam aka Balu (Sree Vishnu) is a responsible middle class guy who works at a multiplex chain in Hyderabad. His father Uma Maheshwar Rao (Naresh) keeps failing in exams over the last three decades. He will get his share in the family property only if he graduates and Balu does all he can to help his dad. In the meanwhile, Sarayu (Reba Monica John) enters Balu's house as a paying guest and falls for him. After initial hesitation, Balu too falls in love with her. Sarayu's father hates love due to incidents that happened in his family before. Just when Balu devises a plan to convince Sarayu's father, he faces another huge hurdle which leaves him shell-shocked. What does he do in order to win his love forms the rest of the story.
Analysis:
Making an entertainer is not easy as everyone expects it to be. As experts say, making people laugh is the hardest thing in movies. Especially, entertaining the audience with clean humor is an even bigger challenge. People laugh when they listen to cuss words or vulgar dialogues but it is cheap comedy. If the comedy scenes are a bit over the top, they are called cringe scenes. In case, the right actors are not chosen, the comedy completely fails. So, writing a comedy scene and bringing it to life is a huge task and the team of 'Samajavaragamana' completed it with distinction.
The entertainment levels are so high in this movie and they are clean too which should be appreciated. The writers and director did not cross the line at any point and gave the audience a wholesome comedy entertainer. Sree Vishnu as the lead actor shines throughout. Despite getting a lot of appreciation for his interesting movies like 'Appatlo Okadundevaadu', 'Bhala Thandanana', 'Alluri', 'Needi Naadi Oke Katha' and others, it is light-hearted entertainers like 'Mental Madhilo', Brochevaarevaru Ra' and 'Raja Raja Chora' that gave him decent commercial success. He is back doing what he does best and Sree Vishnu showcased his ease in generating comedy even with regular dialogues. His modulation and expressions are extraordinary.
The writers did not try anything risky this time. They had an interesting premise with a good interval twist. They added flesh to this skeleton by stuffing a high dose of entertainment throughout the movie. The first half is a hilarious ride right from the beginning. The comedy scenes featuring the hero, the hero's father and the heroine have worked big time and though the story doesn't move forward, the audience do not get bored at any point in time. The interval twist works out big time. Though the love scenes are not great, they are not bad either.
The second half too starts on a promising note but it is definitely not at the level of the first half. The latter part has some good fun episodes but the lag in the screenplay plays a bit of spoilsport. Also, the makers focused so much on the fun part of the movie that they ignored the emotions. There are no emotional high points in the movie and the backstory featuring Rajeev Kanakala too fails to make you connected with the characters. The scenes too start to get a bit repetitive but Vennela Kishore's comedy keeps the audience hooked in the second half. Despite all its shortcomings, 'Samajavaragamana' is a clean and fun family entertainer that works big time. It is a movie that makes you forget everything else and lets you enjoy for over two hours heartfully.
Performances:
Sree Vishnu is a very good performer and he has showcased it once again. He is at his comedic best during a lot of scenes. He practically carried the film on his shoulders. His natural acting was great to watch and his combination scenes with Naresh are very hilarious. His monologue got huge cheers from the viewers and he did well in some emotional scenes too. He is the biggest plus point of this movie but he needs to fine-tune his dancing skills.
Reba Monica John looked beautiful on screen and did a convincing job during the funny episodes as well. Naresh is a show stealer in the role of a father who couldn't complete his degree. His getup and histrionics will leave you in splits. He did a great job while Vennela Kishore too brought the house down in the second half with his comedy. His character is well written and Kishore excels as expected. Sudarshan as the hero's sidekick delivered a lot of punchlines. He worked well with Sree Vishnu. Srikanth Iyengar is decent though his lines get monotonous by the end. All the other actors were amazing in their respective roles.
Technicians:
Raam Reddy's visuals are vibrant. His work is quite good and gives a rich look to the film. Gopi Sundar's work is decent. Though his songs are not highly memorable, his background score has elevated some key scenes. Though the songs arrive at the right time, they obstruct the film's flow. Chota K Prasad's editing is crisp and the short runtime helps a lot. The second half could have been pacier. The production values are adequate.
Ram Abbaraju delivered a very good product. He made sure that the comedy levels are very high. His screenplay is engaging and the way he extracted good performances from all his actors is appreciable. Had he handled the emotional sequences in a better manner, the movie would have been even better.
