Should flexi-pricing be allowed?
By: Tupaki Desk | 28 Jan 2020 7:43 AM GMTSome media person asked Allu Aravind if Sankranthi numbers indicate that the spending quality of the audiences in Telugu states has increased?
We believe the person forgot that while Sankranthi season is that time of the year for people in Telugu states to think about leisure, this time two big films came up with enjoyable content.
If one of them was just as bad as Entha Manchivadura or Disco Raja or as average as Darbar, would they have collected same numbers, without such strong pull among families?
Mahesh, Allu Arjun, Vijayashanthi, Trivikram Srinivas have great pull among family crowds than anyone else. Same wasn't the case with Ram Charan's Vinaya Vidheya Rama, Balakrishna's NTR Kathanayakudu and price hike wouldn't allow Shatamanam Bhavathi to be such a hit or it wouldn't have propelled F2 to be such a blockbuster.
If we just look at numbers and try to analyse, we always find ourselves on the wrong side. But for a producer like Allu Aravind who has been looking to introduce flexi-pricing for weekends and weekdays like in Bangalore and Mumbai, this question gave an ideal platform to say that he believes it is time for people to decide on it.
As he gave a call and he can show these numbers and say that even media thinks so, if Government accepts for flexi-pricing, who is the real culprit here?
Audiences are really not happy with change in pricing. They did show up despite that and supported "content and entertaining" films. That doesn't mean that the spending threshold has increased. One has to remember that and account for it as well.
