Should Tollywood continue price hikes prospect?

Every other Telugu film that has been releasing of late, is coming with hiked ticket prices clause. The cinema ticket prices of even mid range films are costing around Rs 295. In case of a big ticket film, the ticket prices might go up to Rs 395 like it did for RRR. For Acharya, the prices are locked at Rs 395.

But is this the right way going forward for Tollywood? The audience might pay Rs 354 for a big ticket film like KGF 2 or RRR. But will they be ready to pay such a whopping amount of money for each and every Telugu film.

Usually, there is a strong cinema going culture in the Telugu states. Likewise, the ticket prices were also mostly under RS 200 in multiplexes across Nizam region. This was encouraging common audience to come out to watch new releases in big numbers.

But with the ticket prices locked at Rs 350+, the audience will not be as eager to come out to watch new releases. They might opt to wait for OTT release and watch it at the comfort of their homes.

While there might be contrasting ideas on the ticket prices issue, it is essential that filmmakers find middle ground and come up with a flexible pricing model instead of acting with greedy interests.
