Small Films Doing Big On OTT
By: Tupaki Desk | 3 April 2020 7:03 AM GMTThe Corona virus pandemic has left us all in a lockdown. What do people do in a lockdown other than eating and sleeping? Yes most of us watch TV. The demand for content on TV, OTTs has surged double the need and all the platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hotstar are desperately adding content to help their audience. Even after these many efforts, demand for content is not ending and that's where the OTTs are running back of small time producers.
In Tollywood, almost all the small films have released on Amazon Prime recently. The sudden lockdown has left the producers of the film just with one option and that is- sell it to OTT! Remember 'O Pitta Katha' that was desperately promoted by biggies in Tollywood? It didn't even run in Theaters for 10 days. Released on March 06, the movie appeared on Amazon Prime by 15th March. The reasons for such fast release on OTT are different for this film- The movie did not get a big release and movie had no star puller and at last the Theater shutdown too called for the producers to take this drastic step!
Generally small films do not get the attention even on OTTs but this lockdown has broken the myth. Lack of content and new films made this film 'O Pitta Katha' a hit on Amazon Prime. The other small films that are streaming on Amazon Prime by many these days are Vishwak Sen's 'HIT' and adult comedy 'Anukunnadokkati Ayindokkati'. Seeing the big change of audience mindset, Small time producers in Tollywood are trying to sell their finished films to Amazon Prime and are desperate to make few bucks in this hour of crisis.
