We all know that the audience owned her as one of their own cutting across the languages and regions. If we trace back the roots of Sridevi interesting details will emerge.

Sridevi's grandfather Katari Venkataswami Reddy was from Tirupati. He used to run buses between Tirupati-Garapalli-Jammalamadugu. He married a nurse Venkata Ratnamma who works in Jammalamadugu. It was an inter-caste marriage. He got a job at Ruia Hospital in Tirupati later. The couple had six children Balasubramanayam, Rajeswaramma(Sridevi mother), Subbaramayya, Anasuayamma, Amrutamma, Shantamma.

As Balasubramanyam got a job in Chennai he took his brother and sisters with him. Rajeswaramma was fond of films and she wanted to become an actress. She married a small-time actor Rangarao. The couple has a daughter named Suryakala. Rangarao deserted Rajeswaramma later. Suryakala was raised by her grandparents (Suryakala daughter is heroine Maheshwari).

Rajeswaramma married Ayyappan Reddy from Sivakasi a few years later. He was an advocate and he used to practice in Chennai. He was already married by then and has a son from the first wife.

Ayyappan Reddy-Rajeswaramma couple blessed with two daughters Sridevi and Srilatha. Sridevi had a good relationship with her relatives and she used to visit Tirupati every year on her birthday. She used to stay in her relatives house but their relations weakened after her marriage with Boney Kapoor. On the whole, Sridevi roots trace back to Tirupati. It is interesting to note that Sridevi's father was also from a Telugu Reddy family in Tamil Nadu.
