Directors in Telugu Cinema, who had major box office impact created a trend that many after had to follow but they had to come up with something new after 5 or 6 years of good run. Who succeeded in doing so, stood test of tume, who failed couldn't recover.
We can say Puri Jagannath, VV Vinayak as the prime examples of those directors who couldn't reinvent themselves. Trivikram Srinivas after Agnyathavasi changed his pattern but he still has a long way to be at his best.
SS Rajamouli believes in making bigger action films and he seems to be getting better with each film in reinventing his formula and serving it in new style. Sukumar did not have so much impact at the box office but surely, Rangasthalam could prove to be his litmus test.
More than all these directors, Srinu Vaitla's impact at box office is something parallel to what Koratala Siva is enjoying today. Boyapati Srinu always made his brand clear that he believes in action episodes more than other elements.
But in a Koratala Siva movie, we tend to see the director trying to involve everything required for a box office film in his own style yet the story seems to be very simple. Similarly, Srinu Vaitla looked to package his movie with everything with a simple story line.
The only difference between them is Koratala Siva loves serious tone while Vaitla made comedy his brand and tone. He got the formula so right that even others had to follow his route for several films.
But his formula had its expiry date in no time forcing him to see if something else from him can work. Amar Akbar Anthony will be that something new from Srinu Vaitla, it seems.
He is looking to deliver a more serious yet comically balanced film with Ravi Teja it seems. Both the lead actor and director need a hit to keep their box office prospects alive. Let's see what will they achieve?!
