More than the success of 'RRR', Bollywood was amazed by the unexpected success of 'Pushpa' in the Hindi market. While 'RRR' was branded as 'Baahubali' director Rajamouli's film and promoted heavily, 'Pushpa' had zero promotions and it was Allu Arjun's first theatrical release in Hindi. The film collected just 3 crores on its first day and went on to cross 100 crores by the end of its theatrical run. 'Pushpa' became a household name in the North and the songs became sensational hits.

While the entire Bollywood is scratching their heads over it, elite filmmaker Karan Johar recently tried to decode the reason behind the success of Allu Arjun's rustic action drama. Rajamouli said that there is no mass hero culture in Bollywood over the last two decades which is why the masses in the North enjoyed Bunny's heroics on the screen and lapped it up.

Karan Johar's thoughts were on similar lines as he said Bollywood used to make hero-worshipping movies in the 70s and 80s but left them over the years. He added that Telugu and South Indian filmmakers still continued that culture while getting technically advanced.

Speaking about Allu Arjun, Karan said that he was a satellite and digital star even before 'Pushpa' came. All his films were huge hits in television or on Youtube. This craze turned into footfalls in theatres when he arrived with an earthy film like 'Pushpa'.

He said Bollywood doesn't make such films these days and it is the reason why South Indian cinema is getting a lot of reception from the North market. As we know, Karan Johar was the first one to recognize the potential of South films and released the 'Baahubali' franchise and '2.0' in the Hindi market thereby earning huge profits.
