In Telugu Cinema, emotional intelligence is more important to explore than the braniac one. You have to invest your audience to connect with emotions of the characters more than treating them intelligent and emotionless.

Sukumar understood it and explored it brilliantly. Even though he always wanted his characters to be soaked in human emotions, there was always a disconnect as the emotions felt by the characters became more personal and characters were inexpressive in general in his films.

But he overcame that with Rangasthalam. With hero being hearing impaired, he did not just generate an emotional connect with him from audience, but he made it a tool in the story at every point.

Before this, in Jai Lava Kusa, Jr. NTR gave a brilliant performance with variations in Jai character, but the director and writers used it to make us feel sympathy rather than letting us travel with him to understand him.

Even in Bhale Bhale Mogadivoy and Mahanubhavudu, there were ingredients for the hero characters to be explored but mostly those "special abilities" were used to generate comedy and we feel, that is the purpose of hero being treated differently or written with such deficiency.

In Rangasthalam, Sukumar managed to let us travel with the emotions of the character by creating him more realistically and treating the character with more emotions.

We feel sympathy and empathy both by seeing Chitti Babu, we travel with him to explore his village and understand through his point of view the entire story. That is clever writing and story-telling from Sukumar. So, please take a bow from us, sir.
