Telugu films shining bright as Tamil films struggle

Tamil cinema had always been superior to Telugu cinema when it comes to producing technically sleek content. Their narratives core set-ups and screenplay were all superior to Telugu films all the while and the technical finess was cleary outdoing Telugu cinema. But when it comes to producing commercially packed films that are set on a large scale, Telugu cinema is miles ahead of Tamil films.

For instance, after the Covid pandemic, Tollywood had multiple box office blockbusters like RRR and Pushpa which offered a new movie watching experience to the viewers and also made it big at the global box office. While Pushpa put on a fine show in the pan-India circuit with Rs 100 core nett in the Hindi region alone, RRR set the global box office on fire. It hit the $14 million mark in the USA and went on to register Rs 1000 crores gross worldwide.

On the other hand, Tamil films like Vijay's Beast and Ajith's Valimai are not even remotely close to the box office success of our mainstream films like RRR and Pushpa. Beast and Valimai are proving to be loss ventures in their home ground itself - the Tamil market, let alone their prospects in the Tamil market.

While Telugu cinema is producing commercially sound potboilers like Pushpa and RRR which are not just visual marvels but also huge box office winner, the Tamil film industry is clearly lagging behind in this race. They have a lot to learn from the modern day Telugu filmmakers who are on a roll of late.

But that is not just it. We have multiple interesting Telugu projects like Acharya, Sarkaru Vaari Paata, and others which are sure to take the box office by storm. But Tamil industry doesn't have such star driven projects lined up for release in the next few weeks.
