'The Kerala Story' Collections Surpassing Star Hero Flicks!

Barring 'Pathaan' and 'Tu Jhooti Main Makkar', there are no hits in Bollywood this year. The last couple of years has been quite bad for Hindi film industry and the same situation is getting repeated now as well. A lot of star heroes like Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Hrithik Roshan and others arrived in recent times and faced disasters. The box office collections were very disappointing.
But 'The Kerala Story' which did not have any big star is creating havoc at the box office. In its first week, the movie earned 81 crores and it is the highest-grossing female-oriented flick in recent times. It is all set to cross the collections of Alia Bhatt's blockbuster movie 'Gangubai Khatiawadi'. The movie is running with houseful boards even during the second shows in major cities like Mumbai and Delhi. Trade experts believe that it is going to cross the 100 crore mark easily. The Telugu version of 'The Kerala Story' is coming out on 13th May.
Interestingly, the movie is not getting any sort of competition both in the North and South. Had the movie been not banned in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal, the collections would have been huge. We need to see how the Telugu dubbed version performs in the Telugu states. 'Custody' did not get a positive talk and the 'Chatrapathi' Hindi remake got disaster talk which makes it easy for 'The Kerala Story' in Hindi and Telugu markets.
This shows that content is the king and not big stars who are making subpar films without any strong content. 'The Kerala Story' is like a wake-up call to every Hindi filmmaker who is planning to make a movie without quality content and rely on the star hero's brand and market value.
