Theatre & OTT Rights Together Becomes The New Trend!
By: Tupaki Desk | 23 Nov 2020 6:27 AM GMTTill now, there was an unannounced war between the theatre business and the OTT business. Films used to release in theatres at first following by streaming on OTT platforms. With theatres being shut down from the past seven months, the scenario changed completely. Films started to release directly on OTT platforms and people are getting used to it now.
During the initial stages, few theatre owners and distributors didn't respond well to the idea of director OTT releases and were completely against it. But the producers and online streaming sites went ahead and became successful. Over 50 new films were released in the past six months on OTT platforms and we need to see how the scenario changes when theatres reopen.
It seems like there is a high chance of OTT platforms and theatre owners working together from now on. The step taken by Zee Studios is the biggest example of it. They bought the streaming rights of Sai Tej's 'Solo Brathuke So Better' and people eagerly waited for its release. But they surprised by announcing that 'Solo Brathuke So Better' will be hitting the screens. They bought the theatrical rights as well as streaming rights. There is a chance of releasing this film on OTT platform within a few days of its theatrical release or they can release in both mediums at the same time.
Zee Studios bought the rights of Sree Vishnu's 'Raja Raja Chola' in the same manner. Let us wait and see how things shape up in the future.
