With the increasing coronavirus infections, the government have kept the film theatres closed in order to prevent the spread of the virus in closed auditoriums.

The theatre owners, however, are eagerly awaiting the reopening of theatres. They are expected to go about their business at least by October.

Film theatre owners across north and south India have urged the central government to allow them to reopen theatres at least by the Dussehra weekend in October.

They met senior officials of the home, and information and broadcasting ministries separately, and expect to hear good news in the next two days as promised.

"We have requested the government to allow us to reopen cinemas with 50% capacity," said Sunil N Narang, secretary of the Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce and managing director of Asian Cinema Theatres.

Reports suggest that Indian theatre business has lost box office worth ₹3,000 crores in the last six months since March.
