Telangana: Theatres across the state gearing up for reopen?
By: Tupaki Desk | 17 July 2021 6:50 PM ISThe movie theatres across Telangana which have been shut since the third week of April in the wake of the second wave of Covid are likely to resume operations from the 23 rd of this month.
The development comes after the representatives of the Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce met Telangana Cinematography Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav.
It is said that the representatives have submitted a memorandum to the Minister to seek a lending hand from the government to help the theatre owners.
The requested measures include putting off the parking fee, electricity bills and the reduction of the GST bill.
The theater owners suffered a major loss with the shut down of the theatres since the first wave of Covid. During the first wave, the theatres and multiplexes were shut for around eight months.
The theatres were permitted to resume operations with half occupancy in January this year. Movie lovers were happy with this. However, their happiness did not last long with the emergence of the second wave.
The theatres were forced to shut down in the state with the surge in cases. Night curfew and restrictions during the day time have not permitted the theatres to reopen.
When the Telangana government lifted the restrictions, theatres were permitted to reopen with 50 percent occupancy. But the theatre owners were not ready to do so.
It is known that the Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce has been battling for the demand to release the movies in theatres so that the theatre owners can revive from their losses.
They have earlier warned the producers to not release their movies on OTT platforms till October and a decision on whether or not to release movies on OTTs will be taken based on the situations that prevail in October. They even staged a protest with a demand to save theatres and the theatre owners.
The representatives have also urged the Andhra Pradesh government to not restrict the ticket fares.
Coming to Telangana, the guidelines on what basis will the theatres resume operations and the protocols and steps that have to be followed are yet to be announced.
