Theatres offering subsidy on Movie tickets
By: Tupaki Desk | 26 Feb 2014 3:36 AM GMTTamilnadu is a state that worships actors, and elects its actors as chief ministers and it is the second only to Andhra Pradesh when it comes to its peoplesÂ’ movie-going habit and the state offered subsidy on Movies too.
Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa has unveiled another subsidy for the citizens of her state. After Amma Canteens, Amma Water and a proposal for Amma Pharmacies, Tamil Nadu could soon be having Amma Cinema Theatres.
Chennai Corporation has announced the establishment of Amma Cinema Theaters in vacant lands in various parts of the city, as directed by CM Jayalalitha. Announcing 132 welfare and development schemes in the Corporation Budget 2014-2015, Mayor said that tickets would be affordable for poor and the middle class in Amma Theaters at the cost of Rs. 10 to 25.
Government sources say, Amma Theatres will give more preference to the screening of low-budget Tamil films and it's the first step to curb the piracy which is killing the Industry.
According to official sources, at least five cinema theatres are likely to be constructed in the first phase in the city. While some are appreciating the idea, majority have expressed their disliking for the idea. For cinema hall owners, this initiative comes as good news as they believe it will increase the movie-going habit of people and, in turn, kill piracy.
Hope, AP Govt will also follow the same scheme to encourage audience to theaters and thus kill piracy.
