The Andhra Pradesh government is coming up with one knockout punch after the other to the film industry. The reduction in ticket prices led to a heated debate between ruling party members and the bigwigs of the Telugu film industry. The discussions are still going on regarding the ticket rates and the government has come up with another new rule.

Due to the rapid increase in the number of Covid cases all over, the AP government decided to issue new regulations. This includes a 50% occupancy rate in theatres along with night curfews. The audience who watch the movie in theatres have to maintain a gap of one seat between each person according to this new rule. When this rule was applied last year during the first wave, many filmmakers postponed their release.

A lot of pan-Indian films which were supposed to release this month got delayed but many Telugu films aimed at the local audience were eager to arrive this weekend. With this new rule, the collections from Andhra and Ceeded region will be reduced to half and the entire theatre business will be taking a huge hit. The theatre owners cannot make any kind of profit and may even face losses. The producers and distributors are getting worried now.

As the Covid cases are increasing, there is a chance that the Telangana government will be resorting to this 50% occupancy rule in no time. If it happens, it is to be seen if the filmmakers take the OTT route or wait for theatrical release.
