Celluloid wonders; Small Screen Terrors!

There are many films that work wonders on-screen but do not reflect the same on their small screen debuts. They can be called as the Terrors of small screen as the satellite channels buy their rights for fancy amounts and end up incurring losses due to their poor performance on TRPs. Once a movie fails to gain enough TRP rating on its debut, the sponsors will look at next best opportunities and try to engage better deals with them and convincing them to once again spend their money on the telecast of the same movie would be equal to gulping the whole Ganges in one go. Recently, Balakrishna's historical blockbuster for Sankranthi, Gautamiputra Satakarni recorded the same embarrassment.

There are many movies that have proved to be more successful on small screen rather than on big screen. A film like Athadu, can be said a best example for this. The film still puts up good TRP ratings even after its ten thousand one hundredth telecast on TV. GPSK, recorded a TRP rating of 5.52 and several people expressed doubts if the film was really that successful as the filmmakers claim it to be. We can say that there are several factors that help in deciding the TRP, but when Shatamanam Bhavathi on Zee TV which does not have same reach as Star MAA could put up a rating of 15.62, what went wrong for GPSK, happens to be a million dollar question.

When you look at the top films, Nuvvosthanante Nenoddantana recorded the maximum rating by scoring 22.80. The Film still pulls a healthy viewership for Gemini. The next best movies are Ghajini with 22.60, Bahubali with 22.28 and Sri Ramadasu with 21.70. Closely following them are Magadheera 21.68 and Srimanthudu 21.34. Robo and Janatha Garage have recorded 20 ratings as well. Bichagadu became a sensation for dubbing films in recent times after Ghajini, with 18 rating.

Well, the TRP ratings definitely depend on various factors like Channel reach, broadcast timings, programs on rival channels but a big hero film failing to garner even minium TRP on its debut still surprises us. If you remember the movie became an epicentre for all the historical accuracy discussions over the period of its release week.
