Trend Setter Has Become A Mere Follower Now!

There are a few who set the trend for everyone else to follow. But they lose their Midas touch and start becoming a trend follower themselves which is quite sad to witness at times. Legendary filmmaker Shankar is a perfect example of this. Right from the beginning of his career, Shankar has been a trendsetter but fans are not able to digest the fact that he is slowly becoming a follower of other directors. As his first film, Shankar made 'Gentleman' which is a straight attack on the Indian education system and it was a sensation back in those days.

He made 'Indian' which was a patriot's fight against the corruption in the society. This movie has become a talking point all over the nation. The presentation of Kamal Hassan, the graphic work and the technology had shocked everyone. He then made 'Oke Okkadu' which was an attack on the political system in our country. It was a blockbuster and got made in Hindi too. People listen to its songs even today.

There is no need to talk about 'Aparichitudu' which was a phenomenal success. He was the first director to showcase the speechless visual grandeur on the big screen with 'Robo' and his 'Shivaji' is also a blockbuster. Even Shankar's love stories like 'Premikudu', 'Jeans' and 'Boys' were trendsetters in many ways. But the legendary filmmaker started to lose his magic after 'Robo'. His 'Snehitudu', 'I' and '2.0' did not live up to the expectations.

Rajamouli overtook him after 'Baahubali' and turned into the biggest director in India now. A lot of people say that Shankar moving away from his trademark style is the reason behind his downfall. People were commenting that Shankar would bounce back and take his throne back from Rajamouli but Shankar is showing no such signs. He is currently making a big political thriller with Ram Charan and has started working on 'Indian 2' which was halted due to various reasons.

After these two, he will be making a three part movie series based on the Tamil novel Velpari. This idea originated after witnessing the success achieved by Mani Ratnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan - 1'. This shows how the mighty has fallen and his fans are quite unhappy about it. Shankar who set the standards so high for himself right from his first film 'Gentleman' and raised the bar higher till 'Robo' seems to have decided to follow the current trend and make a trilogy based on a popular novel.
