After acquiring the rights of Telugu version of 'Ok Kanmani', Dil Raju asked Mani Ratnam what does 'Kanmani' mean and the filmmaker replied 'Dear'. The Producer then said 'Ok Bangaram' might be apt for the Telugu version. Mani Ratnam liked it instantly and directed Dil Raju to register the title without any delay.
