By: Tupaki Desk | 11 Sep 2019 5:04 PM GMTAnantapur MP Talari Rangaiah complained to Information & Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javdekar against 'Valmiki' title which hurt the sentiments of a particular community.
In the letter addressed to I&B Minister, Talari Rangaiah wondered how did Censor Board cleared a film with such a title. He pointed out, 'Maharshi Valmiki who penned Epic Ramayana was worshipped like God by the Community which was named after him. Appeals made by Valmiki Community has been ignored by the Producers and this led to agitations. Two days ago, There was a huge protest in Kurnool demanding change of title. Day-long Hunger Strike was held at Indira Park in Hyderabad. If the film releases with Valmiki as the title, It hurts the sentiments of the Hindus as its a gangster flick'.
Talari Rangaiah requested Prakash Javdekar to ensure 'Valmiki' title gets changed. He cautioned there might be serious repercussions and law & order issue if the film releases with the same title. He quoted its the responsibility of Censor Board to scrutinize the title of the films and ensure they are neither provocative or offensive. 'In our case titling a film in the name of Hindu Worshipper is definitely provocative. Hence, I request authorities not to issue Certificate,' he appealed.
Stating that its a sensitive matter, Prakash Javdekar ordered the concerned authorities to take necessary measures to ease out tensions.
During the recent Press Meet, Harish Shankar declared Valmiki Community will feel proud of the film upon watching it. Still, The pressure on the Makers to change the title kept mounting day-by-day.
