Following the blockbuster success of Srimanthudu, Mahesh mostly opted to star in films that had an underlying social message. Almost all of his films post Srimanthudu had a strong social message interlaced with the core story. Consequently, Mahesh was predominantly seen in characters that had a serious demeanor. He played mellowed down roles which didn't let him bring the energetic side of his onto the foreground. Films like Bharath Ane Nenu and Maharshi prove the above mentioned point right.
