Mahesh Babu tried his luck with different films trying not to create one kind of image for him. He decided to improve as an actor while delivering better films in Telugu.
Films Pokiri, Dookudu gave him an identity as Superstar at the box office which is hard to ignore. He tried to keep that away but he couldn't successfully accomplish an image breaking blockbuster.
He always had to keep the image in mind and try something new. Whenever he decided that he can try slightly different he had to face disasters.
So, he is very careful before signing any film now-a-days. He is ok to lose out on films but not the money and trust of his fans, producers.
Vikram Kumar after 24 tried to get a movie with Mahesh but the actor did not go through with the idea of a gang of 5 women off different ages being protected by a man.
Even though the idea is unique, Mahesh wanted a story that suits his image also, it seems. Hence, Nani is doing that film now!
