Why Are Stars Doing Very Less Films?

There was a time when run of a film used to matter more than collections. Also, a hero is named as a star only when he used to do 3 or more films per year.
Medium and small budget films used to have stars of that range for producers to invest that amount and recover. Even though hit percentage used to be 25 -30%, very less number of films used to loose huge amounts.
A star like Krishna used to do 8 or more films per year and one year he released 18. His films used to come with a budget of 10 lakhs and make most of the money even though more than 8 used to release regularly.
He stopped making so many in 90's when new heroes came into reckoning. During 60's, 70's and 80's - first ANR, NTR, later Sobhan Babu joined them, used to come up with 5 To 6 films per year, minimum.
As they used to have run of 50 days or 70 days minimum, they used to recover 70-80% and when they delivered a Super hit out of those 5, that film used to collect so much that all the losses used to get covered.
But with either one or two films system now, the gamble become huge and the stakes on each film increased. Audience too want their films to have all elements and blockbuster stories with a fresh take.
So, heroes after looking at the losses their films could garner, stopped accepting films out of friendships or for some producer.
They want a story that they believe and bet on. If that is not the case, they are happy to wait. Allu Arjun showed an example of that.
Even Mahesh did the same after Athidi until he could find Khaleja, story. As the budgets are high they are even happy to wait for 2-3 years for the movie to be made and release.
