Why Some Big Director Assistants Are Becoming Directors?

This is a question that many are asking in TFI circles. We don't see new directors talking about assisting one big director or learning craft from them!
Previously, many used to talk about being either a student of Dasari Narayana Rao or K. Raghavendra Rao. More than 20 assistants of DNR became directors.
He used to talk about it as a proud teacher showing their successful careers. But these days, we don't see such thing happening.
The topic has come up because Sukumar decided to produce 8 films introducing his assistants as directors, in combination with big production houses like Mythri Movie Makers, UV Productions, Geetha Arts.
He himself is helping his assistants to become directors by writing the stories and he is co-producing them too. Looking at him, many are wondering why we don't see SS Rajamouli or Trivikram Srinivas assistants, come up like that.
Actually, both the directors did try to help their assistants but except Venky Kudumula, not many were able to deliver the goods.
Also, big directors can only help someone with script by taking them to a producer, other than that they can't produce the films. What Sukumar is doing is smart but it won't work for everyone!
