Bharateeyudu/Indian addressed corruption but kept itself apolitical through out the film. It questioned every politician, every Government official who is corrupt but did not endorse any political ideology.

It made Subhash Chandrabose's ideology more prominent but even then did not try to make a villain out of other famous freedom fighters.

But that decision could change for the sequel. Shankar and Lyca Productions after 3-4 months of lengthy discussions on script and budget, came to an agreement finally.

During the first schedule, a 2 crores set for the film was put up and when Shankar decided to order changes at the last minute, he and producers had to set up some new terms and conditions, as per reports.

Kamal Hassan remained distant to these talks and he even brought up another project in the meantime for his home production. But he announced Indian-2 is his final film before he completely retires as an actor to dedicate himself to politics.

The movie being a strong political story, the release date is finalised on 14th April, 2021, it seems.

Movie shoot will only finish in September, 2020 and 8 months time is given to post production works as the release is planned in Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam along with Tamil.

Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar are added to the cast along with Kajal Aggarwal, Kamal Hassan. Shankar thought of starting the movie in February, this year but the project changed hands from Dil Raju to Sun Pictures to Lyca Productions.

Many thought after April tussle between the producers and director, movie will be shelved but the release date announcement through media reports is giving hope and relief to Kamal fans.

As 2021 May-June is seen as election season in Tamil Nadu for State Assembly, April 2021 is seen as the best time for Kamal to release this film for a positive political campaign.

Well, we are just happy that in 25th year of the original release, we get a sequel to a commercial patriotic classic and will get meet "Indian Thatha" again!
