Telugu and Indian producers are not certain about the lockdown not extending beyond 15th April or 30th April or even till mid-May too.

Some are already spreading the word that till 31st of May, everyone might have to stay at Home and Work from Home. If that is the case, then for many films that are scheduled for a release during late March and early April, the wait for so long means, increase in interests, they have to pay and loss of revenue, as well.

They are not sure about audience flocking to the theatres after the lockdown as well. Yes, for sure there will loads of people bored to death by staying at home for some many days, but spending money due to recession and monetary discomfort that Covid-19 as aggravated on all of us, will be a factor to consider too.

Some producers will like the idea of lower ticket rates while some will try to go for higher prices, in order to make most of those willing to pay the bucks to watch the movie at theatres.

This might scare people who are willing to pay also, as the uncertainty in future seems inevitable. World is suddenly clueless about how to proceed through the crisis and post it, there will be chaos.

Predicting all this, some producers want to try online release model for films. Like asking for people to spend relatively less amount to download or rent or buy the film, than watching at a theater.

They are planning to reach out to more people and ask them to rent a movie or download or watch it online on a specialized website by paying say Rs. 100 or 150 per download and streaming.

If this happens, the major threat will be piracy. People might just download a movie like V or Most Eligible Bachelor or 30 Rojullo Preminchadam Ela?, from available piracy sites than buying or renting or streaming on the said websites.

If the lockdown miraculously ends on 14th April, then the producers might drop such idea and release the movies one by one with flexi rates, that is, weekend ticket prices might be greater than weekdays.

But if it extends, as many likely predict, then the online business model might be inevitable for few films. Now, can they trust people to not go for piracy shortcuts and pay Rs. 100 or 150 or even 250 or 500/- for downloads, streaming and buying the HD copy, once for all?

Only, if someone tries to take the first step and dare to take a hit and try out, we will know the exact answer from audiences. May be there will be major number of stars coming out and asking people to help them survive with this online model of business as well during these tough times, not going for piracy. Let's wait and see.
