The whole rerelease trend kind of blew up after Bollywood romantic film Sanam Teri Kasam suddenly went viral and made around Rs 53 crore, even though it flopped the first time. That gave everyone a tiny shock. But that movie was just a few years old.

Bollywood is now doing something way bolder. They’re bringing back Sholay, the 1975 classic, and throwing it into 1500 screens on December 12th. That number itself feels wild. The original stars, Amitabh, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, are all much older now, and except Amitabh, most aren’t active in films anymore. So obviously the big question hanging in the air is, will this move make money or backfire? No one’s sure. It’s a proper gamble.

And it’s not just Sholay. Bollywood is lining up a whole nostalgia batch next month in 4K. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Dil To Pagal Hai, and a few more. It’s like they’re trying to check how strong memories are when it comes to dragging people to theatres again.

Tollywood didn’t stay quiet either. Akkineni Nagarjuna’s 1990 cult film Shiva got a rerelease after 35 years. And funnily enough, it collected around Rs 4 crore in two days. Even in North America, it pulled around USD 50k, which is not bad at all for a film that old. So yeah, now everyone’s staring at Sholay, thinking, will it be a sweet surprise or a risky misfire?
