One can confidently say that Bollywood is truly back in 2023. The Indian film industry had a wonderful year as many big films have hit it out of the park and registered terrific collections. According to Ormax Media, the industry made over 12226 crores in the last calendar year. The collections went up by 15% compared to 2022 and Bollywood took the top spot in terms of business.

The Hindi film industry made a stupendous business of 5380 crores as per Ormax. For the first time in history, Hindi cinema crossed the 5000 crore mark and everyone is elated about it. Many thought that Hindi cinema may never regain its glory as it witnessed an all time low during the post-pandemic period. The stellar comeback of SRK steered Bollywood back to success ways as he alone contributed up to 2500 crores with 'Jawan', 'Pathaan' and 'Dunki'. With movies like 'Animal', 'Gadar 2', 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani' and other medium range films doing great, Bollywood acquired the top position.

Tollywood took the second spot by doing a business of 2300 crores. Barring Prabhas and Chiranjeevi, no other big hero released their movies but the industry still delivered big time. Hits like 'Salaar', 'Waltair Veerayya', 'Veera Simha Reddy', 'Bhagavanth Kesari', 'Dasara', 'Hi Nana' and others. 2024 is going to be huge for Tollywood.

Apparently, Kollywood's contribution is 1960 crores and more than 60% money was because of Rajnikanth's 'Jailer' and Vijay's 'Leo'. There were other big films from Ajith, Dhanush and others. While Hollywood contributed to 1139 crores, other industries like Mollywood and Sandalwood took the last two spots with 572 crores and 312 crores respectively. Sandalwood witnessed a drop of 61% and it was mainly due to a film 'KGF 2' and 'Kantara' which were released in 2022.
