Border 2 Movie Talk: Mixed Reactions, Missed Content

Back in 1997, the film “Border” based on India’s victorious war on Pakistan in 1971, turned out to be an epic blockbuster. That film features Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Jackie Shroff and others in the lead roles as Indian soldiers mostly. Now, the film’s sequel, Border 2, featuring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty and Diljith Dosanjh, is carved out and released today.

As per the talk coming from screenings, it sounded very positive, as celebrities and some general audience felt that “Border 2” being a multi-war drama centered around the Indo-Pak 1971 war is quite engaging. While the patriotic touch in the movie is bang on, the emotional graph hasn’t worked out like it did with the original. And on Friday morning, the film missed out in certain theatres as there are issues with the content-loading hard drives. By afternoon, some got sorted out.

Despite all the mixed talk and other odds, Border 2 easily collects a Day 1 gross of around ₹30-35 crores, due to aggressive advance bookings. With the Republic Holiday adding a 3-day long weekend, surely the film might mint ₹100 crores gross easily, even with mixed talk.

On the other hand, in recent times, except Dhurandhar, all the patriotic and war-based movies like 120 Bahadur and Ikkis have bitten the dust at the box office.
