Brad Pitt’s F1, a film built around Formula One racing, has unexpectedly caught fire at the South Indian box office. Despite being a Hollywood sports drama, it’s managed to pull crowds in cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru, markets usually dominated by local films. The film isn’t just performing well globally; it’s connecting with Indian audiences in a surprisingly big way.

With a worldwide collection of Rs 3,970 crore, F1 has already joined the year’s top earners. In South India, dubbed versions helped expand its reach, but it’s the mix of racing visuals and grounded emotion that seems to be doing the trick. Exhibitors say weekday screenings are running full in multiplexes, especially among young viewers.

Meanwhile, Hollywood as a whole is seeing a strong run. Jurassic World: Rebirth is leading the charge with Rs 5,583 crore globally, while Superman is holding steady with Rs 3,498 crore. The latter has made Rs 37 crore in India alone within just over a week. These films show that Hollywood’s presence in the Indian market is only growing.

F1 isn’t just another hit. It’s proof that the audience in South India is open to international stories if they’re told well and packaged right. And Brad Pitt, stepping into a new kind of role, may have just helped change the game a little more.
