As we had been extensively reporting for the last few weeks, the Indian cinema has witnessed one of its biggest crossover clashes at the box office in the form of the coming together of War 2 and Coolie.
Now let us have a look at the kind of revenues that were generated by these two films at the box office on the opening day.
In terms of global box office, Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanakaraj film had collected in the range of ₹150 crore on the opening day. The major majority of these revenues came from the overseas market, which contributed nearly 85 crore. The domestic market added another ₹65 crore.
This is the biggest opening day revenue for any Tamil film till date, and Rajinikanth has created history with the same. This is a significant achievement for this Lokesh and Rajinikanth film.
On the other hand, we have collaborative project of NTR and Hrithik Roshan, War 2 which opened nearly half the capacity as the Rajinikanth film.
It is reported that this NTR and Hrithik Roshan film opened in the range of ₹80 crore gross worldwide. This number might sound big on the paper, but it simply does not add up to the fact that NTR and Hrithik came together for these ordinary numbers.
A lot more was expected when it was first announced that NTR and Hrithik would be collaborating for a project, but the revenues are clearly short of the expectations.
