Unfair 'A' Certification For Couple Friendly? What's Up?
However, it is disappointing to note that the film has been granted an ‘A’ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC),
By: Tupaki Desk | 14 Feb 2026 10:46 AM ISTThis is already known that Santosh Shoban is returning to the big screen with his latest film Couple Friendly. This film has Manasa Varanasi in the female lead role, and there is an active discussion happening about the censor certification for the same.
Incidentally, a Tamil film journalist has spoken up on this matter as he questioned the integrity of the concerned certification department for allocating A certificate to this film.
“Couple Friendly” is a decent romantic drama filled with love, emotion, conflict, and empathy. It is a film that can be viewed and appreciated by audiences of all age groups, the Tamil journalist named Ottran Dorai commented.
However, it is disappointing to note that the film has been granted an ‘A’ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), whereas it appears more appropriate for a ‘U’ or ‘U/A 13+ / U/A 16+’ certification.
The issuance of an ‘A’ certificate in this case seems unreasonable, especially when several Indian films containing sexually explicit content, violence, drug abuse, and offensive language have been granted ‘U’ or ‘U/A’ certifications, he further noted.
After the special media screening of “Couple Friendly” held in Chennai, I had the opportunity to interact with the director, Mr. Ashwin Chandrashekar. Upon enquiring about the reason for the ‘A’ certification, he informed me that the film was reportedly certified ‘A’ primarily due to its title, “Couple Friendly.” The Tamil journalist pointed out as he contradicted the certification done by the censor department.
