Is Sai Pallavi the Wrong Choice for Sita?

The upcoming film Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is one of the most awaited Indian movies. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. Before the trailer release, actress Deepika Chikhalia, who became famous for playing Sita in Ramanand Sagar's television Ramayan, shared her thoughts about Sai Pallavi's casting.

Deepika said Sai Pallavi is a very talented actress and has impressed many people with her performances. However, she believes it is too early to decide whether Sai Pallavi is the perfect choice for Sita. According to her, audiences should wait until they see Sai Pallavi in the role before making any judgment.

Deepika also spoke about how Sita is described in traditional versions of the Ramayana. She said the character is usually described with almond-shaped eyes, a graceful appearance, and certain physical features. She added that Ramanand Sagar selected actors who matched those descriptions. Deepika also made a comment that "Sita with curly hair is not mentioned in the Ramayana," which has now become a talking point among fans.

The actress believes the original Ramayan television series still has a special place in people's hearts. During the COVID-19 lockdown, the show was telecast again and attracted a new generation of viewers. Because of this, she feels comparisons between the old and new versions are natural and difficult to avoid.

Deepika also revealed that playing Sita brought her great fame but also affected her career. She said many filmmakers continued to see her only as Sita, making it difficult for her to get different acting roles. She explained that actors today have more freedom to play different characters, unlike in her time.

Talking about the new cast, Deepika said she is confident that Yash will deliver a strong performance as Ravana. She also wished the entire team of Ramayana all the best and expressed hope that audiences would enjoy the film.

The two-part epic is backed by a grand production team and features music by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to release during Diwali 2026, while Part 2 is expected to arrive in Diwali 2027.
