Cricket drama went beyond the pitch during the Asia Cup 2025 final. After India’s thrilling win over Pakistan, ACC President and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi reportedly took the trophy and medals to his hotel room. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia criticized the move, calling it “childish nonsense” and said India will take the matter to the ICC.

The trophy ceremony turned chaotic. India refused to accept it from Naqvi due to tensions with Pakistan. The UAE Cricket Board arranged for Vice President Khalid to handle the handover. Pakistan players stayed in their dressing room, delaying the presentation. Even the pre-final photo shoot was canceled after India captain Suryakumar Yadav refused to pose with Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha and Naqvi.

This Asia Cup edition was politically charged. Earlier tensions, including the Pahalgam terror attack, and India’s refusal to shake hands with Pakistani players added pressure. On the field, Pakistan collapsed from 113/1 in the 13th over to 146 all out. Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakaravarthy shared the rest.

At 20/3, India’s chase seemed in trouble, but Tilak Varma’s 69* off 51 balls revived the innings. Key partnerships with Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube paved the way, and Rinku Singh finished it with a boundary on the last ball. The trophy controversy remained a hot topic even as India celebrated their ninth Asia Cup.
