Two-time National Award-winning hero Dhanush is a man of many talents. He is a multiple National Award-winning actor, a beautiful singer, a good lyricist, a wonderful writer and a producer with good taste. He has now put on the director's hat for 'Raayan' which was released amidst a lot of buzz in Tamil Nadu. Due to the lack of promotions, the movie did not generate enough hype in the Telugu states.

While there is no flaw in Dhanush's acting, the hero seems to have fallen short of expectations as a writer and director. The public talk and reviews suggest that the movie had nothing new to offer. The story is reportedly quite routine and Dhanush who usually picks unique subjects did not try anything new with 'Raayan' in terms of the story.

On the other hand, he did a decent job as a director as his presentation and taking are quite good. He extracted good performances from all the actors and he got the best technical output too. Some action scenes were very well staged and Dhanush as an actor lifted a few scenes that might have been below par on the paper. While the writer in him disappoints big time with an uneven screenplay and routine story, it is Dhanush's acting and direction that saved the film to an extent.

It is not the first time that Dhanush directed a film. His first flick as a director was 'Pa Paandi' back in 2017. Rajkiran and Revathi are the lead actors in that comedy-drama. It is the story of a retired stunt master who travels to Hyderabad in order to enjoy his freedom. Dhanush himself played the younger version of Paandi and it was a good hit in Tamil. There were complaints about the slow pace and narration in that film too. Let us wait and see how Dhanush's landmark 50th film 'Raayan' turns out after the first weekend.
