In the film world, some people gamble for fame, others gamble with money, and Dheeraj Mogilineni somehow manages to play both games pretty smartly.

The young Tollywood producer and distributor has slowly built a name for himself in the trade circles of Andhra and Telangana. In a recent chat, he spoke straight about his wins and misses, especially how Devara surprised everyone with profits and why he backed out from taking OG.
Talking about Devara, Dheeraj didn’t hide his grin. The film gave more profit than we even hoped for, he said. He had released the movie in Krishna and Anantapur areas, thanks to his close bond with producer Naga Vamsi. Honestly, maybe one or two buyers lost a bit, but Vamsi garu never leaves his distributors stranded, he said. He even recalled how, when War 2 didn’t do great, Vamsi still shared the burden, something rare in this business. That kind of loyalty, Dheeraj said, is what keeps small distributors going.
When the topic switched to OG, Dheeraj laughed and admitted he almost went for it. I planned to buy the AP rights for around ₹12 crore, he said. There’s no doubt OG had hype and good buzz, but at that price, it was just too risky. Even if the film made ₹8 crore in Krishna district, I would’ve ended up losing money. His call turned out smart, the numbers proved he avoided a loss just by stepping aside at the right time.
Now, Dheeraj is busy producing Rashmika Mandanna’s upcoming film Girlfriend while still distributing other movies quietly in the background. He’s already handled over a hundred films across Guntur, Krishna, and Seemandhra. You need to know when to push and when to pause, he said casually. Maybe that’s the trick, Dheeraj doesn’t chase every flashy deal. He plays his cards with gut and timing, and somehow, he keeps winning in a game where luck changes every Friday.
