This weekend turned out to be very special for Ranveer Singh’s action thriller Dhurandhar, as the sudden postponement of Akhanda 2 left theatres with no other major competition. The delay of the highly awaited Telugu film created a clear space at the box office, and Dhurandhar made the most of this golden opportunity.

The film opened to mixed reviews from critics, but that did not stop audiences from visiting theatres in large numbers. On its first day, Dhurandhar collected an impressive ₹27 crore net across India. What surprised trade analysts even more was the strong growth on the second day. On Saturday, the movie earned around ₹31 crore, taking its two-day total to nearly ₹58 crore. This jump showed that audience interest increased through word of mouth and weekend holiday footfalls.

Morning and afternoon shows had average occupancy, but night shows were packed in many big cities. Looking at the advance bookings for Sunday, trade experts expect the film to touch around ₹90 crore net in India by the end of the weekend. Worldwide collections are also expected to cross ₹100 crore easily. If the movie holds steady during weekdays, Dhurandhar is likely to become one of the highest-grossing films in Ranveer Singh’s career.

The postponement of Akhanda 2 also helped Dhurandhar in South Indian markets. Even without a Telugu-dubbed version, the film saw good footfalls in cities like Hyderabad and Vijayawada. With no other big film releasing, Telugu audiences chose Dhurandhar as their weekend entertainer.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar is a spy action thriller where Ranveer Singh plays the role of an undercover agent. The film also features powerful performances by Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan and Arjun Rampal.
