The second part of the super hyped Dhurandhar, the Aditya Dhar directorial “Dhurandhar: The Revenge” was expected to create history even before its release. Many even believed that it would easily cross ₹2000 crore and go past Dangal to become the highest-grossing Indian film worldwide. Though Dhurandhar 2 might emerge as the biggest film at the Indian box office, here’s why it might miss the Dangal record by miles.

One key detail now is the current number. The film has crossed around ₹1600 crore globally and is still adding ₹10 crore plus daily, which is solid by any standard, as many films are not even collecting ₹10 crores in their full run. However, that might add only another ₹100-170 crores as per the trade estimates. But why did the film miss out on that ₹2000 mark despite having such energetic content in hand? If you look at the trend, the film worked extremely well in Hindi, but the same impact was not seen in other regions through dubbed versions. Even Dangal made such an amazing collection after it did well with the Chinese version. Had Dhurandhar 2 done well in Telugu, Tamil, and other languages, surely it would have beaten Dangal’s records.

At the same time, the online narrative also affected the film big time as a section on social media started projecting the film as propaganda rather than a work of fiction or creative storytelling. Whether that is true or not is a different discussion, but it did create mixed perceptions among some audiences, who didn’t step into theatres. That said, collecting ₹1600 crores is a massive achievement for the film. For now, the film is still running strong, and we have to see what more national records it will disrupt at this pace.
