They have been in the industry for the past 4-5 decades and they have bankrolled a lot of huge projects. Known for their production values, this production banner constantly drives towards excellence. Ashwini Dutt started this banner and it is his daughters Priyanka Dutt and Swapna Dutt who are taking it forward now.
They are now coming up with India's biggest and costliest film till date. Starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone and many other noted artists, the made 'Kalki 2898 AD'. Ashwini Dutt's son-in-law Nag Ashwin wrote and directed this gigantic flick which is hitting the screens on 27th June. Do you know how such a prestigious banner was named Vyjayanthi?
As we all know, Ashwini Dutt is a huge admirer of Sr. NTR. Due to his love for cinema, he managed to convince his father and enter the production business. At the age of 19, he made 'Oo Seetha Katha' under Vishwanath's direction. The banner's name was Sovereign Cine Enterprises. He wanted to make a film with his favourite actor NTR. Ashwini Dutt met him one day and expressed his wish.
NTR was reportedly surprised and reportedly said, “Okay. You have come from far to make movies. It's good. You are making movies at such a young age and it is great. But, a movie with me? Do you know my market?” Ashwini Dutt replied that he doesn't know all that and wanted to make a movie at all costs. NTR smiled at him and left. Ashwini Dutt did not lose hope and approached him a few more times. Looking at him NTR asked him to meet a person called Bapayya who is a director.
They decided to make a film together. While signing the call sheet, NTR asked the name of the banner and Ashwini Dutt said that he wanted to name it after lord Krishna and asked NTR to name their banner. As Krishna as Vyjayanthi mala around his neck, NTR wrote 'Vyjayanthi Movies' on the paper. That is how 'Eduruleni Manishi' started and it was a good success. It was remade as 'Jaani Mere Naam' by Dev Anand in Hindi. The next movie under Vyjayanthi Movies banner also had NTR playing the lead. It was 'Yuga Purushudu' which was a massive hit. This is how 'Vyjayanthi Movies' began and it is running successfully even after 50 years.
