Directed by the original filmmaker Jeethu Joseph, this time, Drishyam 3 became the talk of the town for two reasons. One is that the film is directly releasing in South languages without getting remade, and the makers even went to Court to face a leading OTT player regarding the same. Secondly, the film’s advance sales are so strong that many felt that it would crack and create records.
Well, the first talk that came from Drishyam 2 theatres after its release last week isn’t so exciting. However, it looks like the Kerala audience has loved the film better than the Telugu, Kannada, and other language audiences. Surprisingly, the film collected almost ₹40 crores gross in the opening weekend, after it released last Thursday. But in other states, the film is sinking without a trace. In the Telugu states together, the film is said to have made around ₹3 crores gross in the first weekend. That’s pretty low for a film that has the stature of being a Drishyam sequel.
On one hand, there is a severe lack of entertaining films, and on the other hand the scorching heat is not letting people go out in the day. By the evening, the IPL craze has topped the list and that is affecting maximum viewership. Looks like even a sequel to the superhit franchise of Drishyam series cannot escape this situation. But definitely the Kerala collections might have nethralled the makers, while the collections from other South states are truly shocking.
